In ancient Egypt cats, especially female cats, were highly esteemed, linked closely to women, and often depicted as an important member of the households. Mysterious and unpredictable, they were also respected due to their hunting intensity with playfulness and affection. Several deities within the ancient Egyptian pantheon display their characteristics, including the lioness-goddess Sekhmet, daughter of Ra(God of the Sun) and protector of pharaohs.
