Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, learning, music and arts. Saraswati means “the essence of the self” as sara means “essence” and swa means “self” in Sanskrit. Knowledge flows through her like water flows through a river. Knowledge flows from her to people who seek her blessings. Many people recite mantras seeking knowledge and wisdom from the goddess that holds the veena (musical instrument), puskat (scripture) and rides a huumsbahana (swan).
