This is a masterfully carved Lord Krishna the Hindu god compassion, protection, tenderness and love. He is a major deity in Hinduism and is worshiped as the eight avatar of Vishnu, the preserver and protector of the universe. Lord Krishna is also know as a Supreme God in his own right.
Vintage wood carved statue of Lord Krishna is from the private collection from New York, these statues were in a shop as decoration on Saint Marks Street Place in the East Village.
